Today we hear once again an echo of Sunday’s gospel, “… For nothing is impossible with God.”
Powerfully, God uses two barren women, one woefully out of age, to bear sons. In the depths of their despair, when they have long given up hope and have accepted their fate as final, He once again proves that He can do all things - even the impossible. This, too, foreshadows the resurrection of Christ: Out of death, God brings life.
God has only one request of us - that we give ourselves completely in surrender. But it is not an easy process - to give up our pride, our ego, our attachments, our desires and human needs, our love for self. So many things, just for one God. We all know God is enough - but do we want God as badly as we think we do?
I pray for the grace of humility and surrender.
